File movement records for a delayed pension sanction

What was asked

To the Central Public Information Officer, Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare.

Under section 6(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, I request the following information:

1. The file movement record for pension sanction files pending beyond ninety days as on 31 March 2026.
2. The number of such files, department wise.
3. Any office memorandum issued on reducing pension sanction delays since January 2025.

What came back

Point 1: The file movement register is maintained physically. Inspection may be sought under section 2(j)(i) at this office on any working day.

Point 2: 1,184 pension sanction files were pending beyond ninety days as on 31 March 2026. A department wise break up is annexed.

Point 3: Office Memorandum No. 12/9/2025-P&PW dated 14 July 2025 is annexed.

The names of individual pensioners in the register are withheld under section 8(1)(j), as that information has no relationship to any public activity. The aggregate figures at point 2 are released in full, applying section 10.
